Commissioning a bespoke piece with Gemma at GG Jewellery is a deeply personal experience, one that results in creating an heirloom for future generations.

The journey from a hand-drawn sketch to a precious, finished piece is a unique story in itself.

In The Making

It starts with a conversation where you and Gemma discuss your ideas, budget, and preferred materials. This collaborative discussion lays the foundation for your unique piece.

Following this, Gemma brings your vision to paper with initial sketches and then transforms these into a detailed CAD 3D drawing. This step offers you a comprehensive view of your future piece, allowing you to see every intricate detail before the creation process begins.

Your piece is then meticulously crafted, using either traditional hand techniques or precision moulds, and hand-finished in our Wellington workshop.

The result is a future heirloom, delivered to you and designed to be cherished for years to come.

  • The commission process at GG Jewellery is a collaborative journey. It begins with a personal consultation where you share your vision and ideas with Gemma. She then creates initial sketches and works with you to refine the design. Throughout the process, we ensure your input is integral to the creation of your unique piece, right through to the final craftsmanship in our Wellington studio.

  • It can take about 8 weeks to complete a typical commission and this depends on things like the complexity of the design and the availability of precious stones that we source for you. If you have a date in mind that you are working towards then please let us know so we can try to accommodate you.

  • Yes absolutely. We often remodel family heirloom pieces and encourage you to re-use and re-purpose precious stones and metals in the new design.

  • This is hard to answer without a specific example but if you bring your idea to us we can prepare a few options at set price points for you to consider. There are so many variables but our estimates are transparent and informed and we source and use only the finest materials from sustainable sources wherever possible.

  • We love the engagement ring Gemma made for us. It is beautiful and she worked really hard to help us have exactly the ring we wanted. Gemma is genuine and gentle, and it was really clear that she loved working with us and being part of our happiness. A recent commission to remodel our customer’s three gold rings into a modern take on a traditional eternity ring. I love how the hammered texture of the gold sets off the sprinkle set diamonds - it’s a favourite style of mine.
